Bremerton School District Substitute Custodial in Bremerton, Washington

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

The person filling this position is responsible for all basic custodial duties in the building.  Duties may vary depending on shift and location of assignment.  This person will perform cleaning and housekeeping duties and is responsible for building security.

 

Reports to and evaluated by:           Head Custodian or Designee

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learn all custodial functions including proper mixture of chemicals and proper running and cleaning of all equipment; work assignments may vary as the employee becomes familiar with the equipment and facilities.

``` - Open buildings and prepare them for use.  May maintain building security when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and unauthorized occupants.  This person shall be responsible for the overall security of the building.  Individual rooms and/or teaching stations will be secured by the custodian as rooms are cleaned.  Once rooms and/or teaching stations are secured, custodians are no longer responsible.

``` - Use power equipment and hand tools such as brooms, mops, squeegees, buffers, polishers, and vacuums as required for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.

``` - Clean and sanitize toilet/shower rooms and fixtures; empty wastebaskets and trash containers; clean chalkboards and erasers; dust furniture; sweep, mop and polish floors.

``` - May set up and remove furniture required for special events; may carry and climb ladders; may replace light bulbs, tissue and other restroom supplies; may issue linen and bedding; may wash windows; may use manlift for changing lights in gym or outside window cleaning.

``` - Will clean sidewalks; may clean driveways, rake leaves, mow grass and help maintain campus grounds.

``` - Read and interpret written instructions, service orders, and labels on chemicals and supplies.

``` - Perform related work as assigned and/or required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior custodial experience or successful trial period as a substitute custodian.

``` - Possess high school diploma or G.E.D.

``` - Ability to read and write and understand math to interpret Material Safety Data Sheets and in mixing chemicals.

``` - Ability to read and comprehend labels, instructions and written directions.

``` - Ability and willingness to follow directions, both written and verbal. 

```{=html}

``` - Must be able to lift a maximum of fifty (50) pounds (WAC-296.126.096).

``` - Effective communication and interpersonal skills, and skills in working well with others. 

```{=html}

``` - Must have above-average record of attendance, punctuality, and reliability at work. 

```{=html}

``` - Must have neat and clean appearance upon arrival to work.
