Summary:
The Second Judicial District is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Law Clerk position in the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse in Mason City, IA (District 2A service area). This is intended to be a 12-month clerkship opportunity beginning in August 2024. Depending on funding, availability, and performance, this clerkship may be extended up to an additional year.
Starting salary $53,622.40 annually. Eligible for State of Iowa benefits.
Responsibilities:
Employees in this position perform research and administrative functions for multiple judges. Knowledge of substantive and procedural law and statutes applicable to jurisdiction of the district court. Ability to interact with the public, judges, attorneys, and government officials in a variety of situations and circumstances. Ability to formulate and express ideas on complex technical and legal subjects clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.
Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited law school is required (applicants may apply before they have officially graduated). High standard of academic excellence and considerable experience in legal research and writing are desirable.
